What is Naag Panchami Puja?
An auspicious day for snakes, when the entire clan of snakes was saved by Ma Mansa Devi from becoming extinct due to the Sarpa Satra Yagna, performed by rishi munis as per the order of King Janamejaya. Naag Panchami Puja is a way to please Naag Devta and seeking his blessings for protection against harm from snakes. Digging of field and ploughing is avoided on this day, as earth is the habitat of the snakes. So to fulfil the desires and eliminating the ill effects of Kaal Sarpa Dosh in the kundli, this pooja is performed.
