Snakes and serpents are worshipped in our Hindu Mythology due to the fact that during rainy season when the snakes come out of their holes, there were chances of deaths due to snake bites. So this puja was performed to gratify the serpents and prevent snake bites (evils of the society).
This puja helps to remove the snake fear among the natives as well as clear the hormonal disturbances in the body. People suffering from Kaal Sarpa Dosh (when all the planets are placed between Rahu and Ketu in the kundli) can get rid of their malefic effects by this puja.
